ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Folks who travel along 11th Street between 25th and 42nd avenues in Rock Island will need to pay extra attention to detour signs as crews begin replacing a water main in the area this week.
The City of Rock Island said Langman Construction Inc. will begin its water main replacement project the week of March 13. The work is expected to last through the summer and possibly into the fall of 2023.
The repairs will start on 11th Street at 42nd Avenue with the replacement of manholes and water valve boxes in the east lane before proceeding to 25th Avenue with temporary traffic control set up in the work areas.
"More extensive" traffic control will be set up by the Illinois Department of Transportation once Langman begins replacing the water main in the center two lanes of 11th Street. The repair areas could take up four-to-five blocks during installation.
Detours may be required for proper water main installation and traffic control safety at some intersections. Rock Island encourages travelers to follow the posted signs and traffic control devices when traveling through the area.
Keep an eye on the City of Rock Island's Facebook page for any updates on detours.
