INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark set a new record for WNBA rookies, Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points and the Indiana Fever beat the second-best team in the league Wednesday night.

But equally big highlights came off the court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles watched the Fever beat the Connecticut Sun, 84-80, from the suite level. So, too, did Gabby Thomas, who won three gold medals in Paris.

The Olympians were lauded by the crowd when they were introduced on the large video board at the fieldhouse.

13News anchor Anne Marie Tiernon was among those greeting the athletes as they walked to their seats.

The gold medalists weren't the only stars in the house for Wednesday's game. Indianapolis native David Letterman was also introduced to the crowd in his courtside seats before the second quarter.

Letterman was sitting alongside Lisa Bluder, who coached Clark at the University of Iowa before announcing her retirement this summer.

After the game, the Fever players were star-struck as they met Biles and Thomas in the locker room.

The Fever play their next two games on the road in Chicago and Dallas before returning home for a six-game homestand, starting Sept. 4 against the L.A. Sparks.

(Editor's Note: This story has been updated to correct that the Fever play in Dallas, not Detroit, on Sunday, Sept. 1.)
