Dallas Wings sign Stephanie Soares, former Iowa State basketball player

Soares was first acquired by the Dallas Wings in 2023, but missed all of last season as she recovered from ACL surgery.

DALLAS — The Dallas Wings have signed Stephanie Soares, the WNBA team announced Tuesday.

"Stephanie brings a rare blend of size and athleticism to our front court and will be a great addition to our roster," said Greg Bibb, president and CEO of the Dallas Wings, in a statement.

The former Iowa State women's basketball player became the highest WNBA draft pick in Cyclone history last year, when she was drafted No. 4 by the Washington Mystics and traded to the Dallas Wings.

However, Soares missed all of last season as she recovered from an injury and subsequent surgery.

Soares played just 13 games as a Cyclone before tearing her ACL and ending her senior season. In 13 games, Soares averaged 14.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and three blocks per game and shot 54.4% from the floor.

Prior to her time with Iowa State, the Sao Paulo, Brazil native played at The Master's University, where she won NAIA National Player of the Year in 2022 and 2020.

Soares is currently competing with Brazil's national team and will participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament Feb. 8-11 in Brazil.
