MOLINE, Ill. — For the first time in Western Illinois history, the Leathernecks are going to play a home basketball game on the road. The University announced on Tuesday that the men's and women's basketball programs will play a doubleheader inside Vibrant Arena at The MARK in Moline on Friday, Dec. 16.
Just a couple miles down the road from WIU's Riverfront Moline campus, the Leathernecks women's team will kick off the action against St. Xavier at 5:30 p.m.
The men's game will take place immediately afterwards, as they take on Eureka College at 7:30 p.m.
Western Illinois is no stranger to the Quad Cities, or The MARK. The arena hosted the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament from 1996 to 1999. The Leatherneck men's team also played the Iowa Hawkeyes in Moline in 1996 and 1998.
Leatherneck freshman guard and 2022 Central Dewitt high school graduate Allie Meadows will make the trip back home for the game.
The games are part of the Western Illinois season ticket package for home games. There will be an exchange for a reserved seat at Vibrant Arena for those who purchase season tickets in advance.
Western Illinois will not sell individual game tickets for the game through the Western Illinois ticket office. Information on single game tickets, to be sold through Vibrant Arena, will be made available at a later date.
