Round Two! Quad Cities HS Football Playoff Contests

Quad City HS football teams continue battling towards a state championship in Round Two. Moline, North Scott, Sterling, Princeton and Rockridge play in round two.

Quad Cities area high school football teams continue battling towards a state championship this weekend.

Round Two of the IHSA (Illinois) and IHSAA (Iowa) high school football playoffs kick off Friday night, and continue throughout Saturday. 

11 Quad Cities area have earned a spot in the second round after opening round victories. 

Area teams are bolded. Let's take a look at each QCA team competing in the second round:

Illinois Playoffs

Clasis 7A

(10) Moline (9-1) at (7) Yorkville (9-1) Fri. 7 p.m. 

Match-up: Moline prevailed over 23-seeded DeKalb last Friday in a 21-13 slugfest. Grinding out a closely contested victory in Round One could prove to be beneficial for the Maroons, as they hope to advance in a talented Class 7A bracket. They'll travel to face the seventh-seeded Yorkville Foxes. Moline and Yorkville both received six votes in the most recent AP poll, making them tied as the No. 11 team in Illinois' Class 7A. The victor will face either Hersey or Batavia in the quarterfinals. 

Class 6A 

(1) Lemont (10-0) at (9) Quincy (7-2) Sat. 3 p.m.

Match-up: After defeating Chatham-Glenwood 49-42 on the road in a high-scoring shootout, Quincy will enjoy home field advantage against Lemont. Ranked third in the most recent Class 6A AP Poll, Lemont boasts wins over playoff-qualifying Libertyville, Nazareth Academy, Oak Forest, Oak Lawn-Richards and Hillcrest. Lemont dismantled Blue Island-Eisenhower in Round One by a score of 55-14.

Quincy will rely on their high-powered offense in order to pull off the home upset against the top overall seed in the Class 6A bracket.  

Class 5A 

(5) Sterling (7-2) at (4) Chicago-Goode (9-1) Fri. 5:30 p.m.

Match-up: AP No. 9 Sterling beat St. Viator 34-17 in Round One action. They'll travel to Chicago to take on the Knights of Goode STEM Academy. Goode is coming off a 48-0 Week One victory over Chicago (Noble/Pritzker). During the regular season, Goode defeated three playoff-qualifying teams, Class 1A Chicago (Corliss), Class 3A Chicago (Carver) and Class 4A Chicago (Noble/Comer). 


Class 3A 

(8) Genoa-Kingston (8-2) at (1) Princeton (10-0) Sat. 1 p.m. 

Match-up: Princeton is one of just three Quad Cities area teams with a home game in Round Two. After bashing Peotone in Round One, 56-28, Princeton will host Genoa-Kingston in Round Two. Genoa-Kingston defeated Elmwood-Brimfield 16-8 last week, and holds regular season victories over playoff-qualifying Winnebago, Rockford-Lutheran and Stillman Valley.

Class 2A 

(4) Rockridge (9-1) at (12) Bloomington Central Catholic (7-3) Sat. 1p.m.

Match-up: Rockridge walloped Sterling-Newman in Round One, 42-12. They'll travel to Bloomington on Saturday to take on the Central Catholic Saints, who defeated Mercer County in Round One in a close 28-27 affair. Central Catholic possesses regular season wins over playoff-qualifying Monticello and St. Joseph-Ogden.

(7) Knoxville (8-2) at (2) Bismarck-Henning (10-0) Sat. 1p.m.

Match-up: Knoxville defeated Mendon (Unity) 33-14 in Round One. The Blue Bullets will travel to undefeated Bismarck-Henning for Round Two in a Battle of the Blue's. The Blue Devils of Bismarck-Henning defeated Westville 43-35 in Round One. Bismarck-Henning previously defeated Westville on Oct. 14 by a score of 52-7.

 

Class 1A  

(4) Fulton (8-2) at (12) Rockford Lutheran (6-4) Sat. 1 p.m.  

Match-up: Fulton trounced Aurora Christian 38-13 in Round One. In Round Two, they draw Rockford Lutheran, who defeated Annawan-Wethersfield in the opening round. Rockford Lutheran has a regular season victory over playoff-qualifying Winnebago.

(8) ROWVA/Williamsfield (6-4) at (1) Lena-Winslow (10-0) Sat. 1 p.m.

Match-up: ROWVA/Williamsfield routed Stark County in Round One, 28-14. The Cougars will be underdogs when they travel to face the AP No. 1 ranked Class 1A squad, Lena-Winslow. Lena-Winslow has won three state championships in the previous four seasons.

8-Man (Quarterfinals)

(7) Milledgeville (7-3) at (2) West Central (10-0) Sat. 1 p.m.

Match-up: Milledgeville thrashed West Prairie in Round Two, 52-3. The Missiles will travel to Biggsville (West Central) in a quarterfinals match between regular season foes. Milledgeville and West Central met on Oct. 8, when West Central drubbed Milledgeville, 64-36. West Central demolished South Beloit last weekend, 52-14. The winner will secure a spot in the 8-man semi-finals.

(6) Polo (8-2) at (3) Ridgewood (9-1) Sat. 1 p.m.

Match-up: After downing South Fork in Round Two by a score of 58-26, Ridgewood hosts Polo in the 8-man quarterfinals. Polo defeated Hiawatha in Round Two, 44-8. The winner of this match will face the winner of Milledgeville and West Central.

Iowa Playoffs

Class 4A 

North Scott (8-2) at Waverly-Shell Rock (10-0) Fri. 7 p.m.

Match-up: North Scott downed Western Dubuque in Round One by a score of 38-15. They'll travel to Waverly-Shell Rock to battle the undefeated Go-Hawks. The winner secures a spot in the Class 4A Semi-finals.
