It's playoff season! Quad Cities HS Football Postseason Primer

Moline will host DeKalb in the first round of IHSA 7A playoffs, while undefeated Pleasant Valley will take on Valley in the opening round of IHSAA 5A playoffs.

MOLINE, Ill. — The IHSA (Illinois) and IHSAA (Iowa) high school football playoff brackets have been unveiled, and the Quad Cities area is represented in numerous brackets. 

Area teams are bolded. Let's take a look at each QCA team vying for a state championship:

Illinois Playoffs

Clasis 7A

(23) DeKalb (6-3) at (10) Moline (8-1)  Fri. 7 p.m. 

Match-up: After winning the Western Big Six title for the second consecutive season, Moline earned the 10th seed in Class 7A and a first round home game. The AP Poll's Class 7A 11th ranked Maroons hold regular season victories over playoff-qualifying Sterling, Quincy and Geneseo. They draw a match with No. 23 DeKalb, who holds impressive victories over Class 8A playoff qualifiers Neuqua Valley and Plainfield South. 

Class 6A 

(9) Quincy (7-2) at (8) Chatham Glenwood (7-2) 

Match-up: Quincy will travel to Chatham to battle the AP Poll's Class 6A 11th ranked team. Glenwood has two victories over playoff-qualifying teams. The Blue Devils have wins over playoff qualifiers Geneseo and Quincy Notre Dame.

Class 5A 

(12) Arlington Heights St. Viator (5-4) at (5) Sterling (7-2) Sat. 2 p.m.

Match-up: Sterling hosts St. Viator in a Class 5A first round match. The Golden Warriors are ranked 9th in the Class 5A AP Poll, with victories over Geneseo and Quincy.

Class 4A 

(16) Geneseo (5-4) at (1) Carterville (9-0) Sat. 1 p.m.

Match-up: Geneseo travels to face undefeated Carterville, the 7th ranked team in Class 4A. The Maple Leafs secured playoff eligibility with a Week 8 victory over Rock Island.

Class 3A 

(16) Peotone (5-4) at (1) Princeton (9-0) Fri. 6 p.m. 

(12) Monmouth-Roseville (5-4) at (5) Stillman Valley (8-1) Fri. 7 p.m.

Class 2A 

(13) Sterling Newman (5-4) at (4) Rockridge (8-1) Sat. 1p.m.

(12) Bloomington Central Catholic (6-3) at (5) Mercer County (7-2) Sat. 2 p.m. 

(10) Unity-Payson (6-3) at (7) Knoxville (7-2) Sat. 1p.m.

 

Class 1A 

(12) Rockford Lutheran (5-4) at (5) Annawan/Wethersfield (7-2) Sat. 1 p.m.  

(13) Aurora Christian (5-4) at (4) Fulton (7-2) Sat. 2 p.m.  

(9) Stark County (5-4) at (8) ROWVA/Williamsfield (5-4) Fri. 7 p.m. 

(14) Morrison (5-4) at (3) Ottawa-Marquette (8-1) Sat. 1 p.m.

Iowa Playoffs

Class 5A 

(13) Valley, W.D.M. (5-4) at (4) Pleasant Valley (9-0) Fri. 7 p.m.

Match-up: Pleasant Valley enters the playoffs as the AP Poll's top team in the state. They'll host a West Des Moines Valley program that's reached the state title game as recently as 2019. The Spartans hold victories over playoff qualifiers Cedar Rapids Prairie, Linn-Mar and Iowa City High. Valley earned a regular season win over playoff qualifier Waukee Northwest. 

(16) Davenport West (7-2) at (1) Dowling Catholic, W.D.M. (8-1) Fri. 7 p.m. 

Match-up: Davenport West notched their seventh win of the season on Friday to secure the final playoff spot in Class 5A, and their first playoff berth since 1999. The Falcons will travel to West Des Moines Dowling with a monumental upset in mind. Dowling won seven straight state titles between 2013 and 2019. The AP Poll's 2nd ranked Maroons recorded six wins over playoff qualifying teams.

Class 4A 

Western Dubuque (6-3) at North Scott (7-2) Fri. 7 p.m.

Match-up: North Scott walloped Western Dubuque in Week 2 by a score of 45-7. Despite this, Western Dubuque managed to beat Iowa City Liberty, the only mutual opponent between the two teams. North Scott dropped a close Week 5 road match with Liberty, 20-16. Both teams hold just a single win over playoff qualifying teams. 

Class 3A 

Central Dewitt (6-3) at Mount Vernon (9-0) Fri. 7 p.m. 

Class 1A 

Mediapolis (8-1) at Sigourney/Keota (7-2) Fri. 7 p.m. 

Class A

Columbus Community (8-1) at Grundy Center (9-0) Fri. 7 p.m. 

Eight Player 

Easton Valley (7-1) at Montezuma (8-2) Fri. 7 p.m.
