HENNEPIN, Ill. — May's Friends of the Hennepin Canal "Hike the Hennepin" event will be held on May 19 at 1:30 p.m.

The crew will meet at Lock 11, just north of Tiskilwa, and walk to Lock 6. The hike covers 4.6 miles in total with the stretch of the canal called "Snapping Turtle.

The organization says this stretch was one of former Hike Leader Ed Herrmann's favorites and to honor him, they are renaming May's hike the Ed Herrmann Memorial Hike.

You do not need to be a member of the Friends of the Hennepin Canal to participate and no fee is required either. People are encouraged to bring a friend and dress weather appropriately.
