Paris Olympics: Drake Relays alumni take home nearly 20 medals

More than 100 Drake Relays alumni participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing 30 different nations.

SAINT-DENIS, France — From the Blue Oval to the Stade de France, former Drake Relays participants are making a name for themselves around the world.

More than 100 Drake Relays alumni participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing 30 different nations and taking home a total of 19 medals.

For context, if all of those Blue Oval athletes created their own nation, their country would be tied with Hungary in 14th place in medal counts. Athletes from 207 National Olympic Committees participated in the most recent Olympic games.

In field events, shot put world record holder and five-time Relays champion Ryan Crouser of the United States won his third-straight gold medal. Jamaica's Rajindra Campbell took third in men's shot put, earning him his first Olympic medal.

Former Blue Oval runners also excelled on the track. Masai Russell won gold with a time of 12.33 in the women's 100m hurdles. Fellow Relays alum Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico took bronze in the event.

Fittingly, several Blue Oval athletes medaled in relays events. Canada's Duan Asemota and Andre De Grasse earned gold medals in the men's 4x100 relay. Meanwhile, former Drake Relays runner Shaun Maswanganyi helped South Africa place second to win a silver medal.
