Iowa's Wallace promoted to assistant head coach, Parker receives raise

Iowa's Seth Wallace has been promoted to associate head football coach, the first time that the Hawkeyes have had an assistant head coach in the Kirk Ferentz era.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa's Seth Wallace has been promoted to associate head football coach following six seasons as the team's assistant defensive coordinator/linebackers coach, according to a university press release.

This is the first time that Iowa has had an assistant head coach in the Kirk Ferentz era.

During Iowa's 2023-24 campaign, the defense ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense and seventh in total defense. Linebacker Jay Higgins and defensive backs Cooper Dejean and Sebastian Castro all earned AP All-America honors during the 10-win season.

“Being able to coach at the University of Iowa with such great players, coaches and staff members is really an honor,” said Wallace. “The University of Iowa and this football program are both very special to me. I am appreciative of this new, expanded role and look forward to preparing our athletes for the upcoming season and beyond.”

With the promotion, Wallace's annual base salary will be increased from $755,000 to $1,000,000.

Under Wallace's tutelage, the Iowa linebackers group has been one of the best in college football, with five Iowa linebackers earning All-America recognition in the past eight seasons, including consensus selections Josey Jewell (2017) and Jack Campbell (2022).

In the same press release, the school also announced that Defensive Coordinator Phil Parker has received a raise, now earning a base salary of $1.9 million.

Iowa's defensive unit looks to be one of the best in the country next season with Jay Higgins, Sebastian Castro, Nick Jackson, Jermari Harris and Quinn Schulte all putting their NFL dreams on hold to return for a sixth season.
