IOWA CITY, Iowa — The new-look Iowa women's basketball team looked like it wanted to make a point in the post-Caitlin Clark era Wednesday night as the team doubled Missouri Western's total points in exhibition, with a final score of 110-55.
In the game, which saw no lead changes as the Hawks controlled the match for all 40 minutes, every active player scored at least 4 points.
Starters for the game were senior guard Lucy Olsen who transferred from Villanova since last season, junior guard Taylor McCabe, red-shirt senior guard Kylie Feuerbach, junior forward Hannah Stuelke and senior forward/center Addi O'Grady.
Numbers at a glance:
- Olsen had a team-high six assists in her Hawkeye debut, also recording 14 points
- Feuerbach scored 14 points from the field with seven rebounds and two steals
- Stuelke recorded 18 points and a team-leading seven free throws to go along with five rebounds
- Five players registered double-digit in scoring (Feuerbach, Olsen, Stuelke, freshman center Ava Heiden and freshman guard Teagan Mallegni)
In a game as lopsided as this one, the freshmen got their turn to bring the heat and show what they can bring to the table:
- Freshmen Heiden, Mallegni and guard Taylor Stremlow combined for 34 points, 16 rebounds and five assists
- Stremlow tallied a team-leading nine rebounds
- Mallegni shot 50 percent from the arc (4-9) netting 18 points
The game was just Iowa women's basketball's second sold-out exhibition, recording the largest exhibition crowd in program history.
With the victory, Iowa moves to 2-0 all-time over Missouri Western in exhibition matchups with the last win coming in 2007.
The Hawkeyes officially open the regular season Nov. 6, hosting Northern Illinois.
