IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa quarterback Deacon Hill has entered the transfer portal after one year with the team.
Hill was a major factor in 2023, filling in as the starting quarterback for nine games after Cade McNamara suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Hill completed 122 of 251 passing attempts, throwing for 1,152 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Hill helped lead Iowa to a Big Ten West crown and a berth in the 2023 Big Ten Championship game.
With McNamara still limited physically, the California native had taken most of the first-team snaps during Spring ball.
Hill played two seasons at Wisconsin from 2021 to 2022, before committing to Iowa in January of 2023. He was originally committed to Fordham before Iowa offered him a scholarship.
Iowa now has just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster in Cade McNamara and Marco Lainez. Incoming freshman James Resar will join the team in the summer. The Hawkeyes could also look to the transfer portal for a quarterback.
The transfer portal opened on Apr. 16 and will remain open until Apr. 30. WR Jacob Bostick and TE Cael Vanderbush have also entered the portal.
