Cade McNamara announces he will return to Iowa City next year: 'Go Hawks!'

After suffering a season-ending torn ACL against Michigan State, Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara confirmed he will return to the Hawkeyes next season.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara will be returning to the Hawkeyes next season.

The Michigan transfer made the announcement on his social media accounts Wednesday night.

"I had a vision when I decided to come to Iowa and that vision remains the same," he wrote in part. "There is still a lot I want to accomplish in the Black and Gold and look forward to bringing it to life in the 2024 season. Go Hawks!"

Some of his teammates chimed in in support:

  • "12 will be back and better❤️ can’t wait," defensive back Cooper DeJean commented on Instagram.
  • "Comeback will be better than the setback🙏," linebacker Jayden Montgomery wrote.
  • "Love you bro! ❤️" tight end Luke Lachey posted.

McNamara suffered a season-ending torn ACL against Michigan State on Sept. 30. In his first season as a Hawkeye, he completed 46 of 90 passes, throwing for 505 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz told media members the following week that he believed McNamara intended to return next season for his final year of eligibility.

"Hopefully he'll have June, July, and then August full-speed to go," Ferentz said on Oct. 3.

The Hawkeyes (6-2, 3-2) are on a bye this week following a 12-10 loss to Minnesota. Iowa faces Northwestern at Wrigley Field on Saturday, Nov. 4 (2:30 p.m. CT on Peacock).
