Pleasant Valley softball wins class 5A state championship

The Lady Spartans beat out West Des Moines Valley in a hard-fought 14-11 victory.

FORT DODGE, Iowa — The Pleasant Valley Lady Spartans are officially state champions.

On Thursday, July 25, Pleasant Valley beat out Valley West Des Moines in a hard-fought 14-11 victory, securing their spots as the class 5A state champions.

"It was incredible to watch. It was incredible to be a part of. We just rallied on each other, let our momentum carry us through the game. We didn't care what the score was, we just took it one pitch, one at-bat at a time," 5A All-Tournament Team Captain Jessie Clemons said.

The 2024 State Softball Tournament began Monday at the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. A total of 40 high school teams made it to this year's tournament. All five state championship games will be broadcast on-air and online by Iowa PBS.
