ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Augustana men's basketball team has a new head coach, and he's a familiar face in the Quad Cities region.
Jordan Delp was announced as the school's 18th men's basketball head coach on Wednesday, according to an Augustana College news release.
"The servant leadership that Jordan has displayed the last nine-plus weeks while leading the Augustana men's basketball program is emblematic of who he is as a coach and a person — analytical, focused, passionate and prepared,” Director of Athletics Mike Zapolski said. “Jordan inherited a difficult situation and quickly established the trust of the team. He led them admirably with class and grace, and earned the opportunity to serve Augustana College as our next head men's basketball coach."
Delp, a 2009 Augie graduate, became a full-time assistant during the 2021-22 season. He had been serving the team as the acting head coach since December. Prior to joining the Augustana staff, Delp was a basketball skills coach for 12 years in the QC, working with numerous players that would go on to have professional careers, including four NBA players.
Before becoming a coach, Delp played for the Vikings from 2004 through 2009. He served as a team captain for two seasons and earned All-CCIW honors in 2006-2007. He played his prep basketball at Mount Carroll High School, where he led the school to a runner-up finish in the 2003 IHSA Class A state tournament.
