Iowa women's basketball ranked No. 4 in AP preseason poll

The reigning Big Ten champions return all five starters and enter the season with redemption in mind after an early exit from the 2022 NCAA tournament.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team is ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP poll released on Tuesday; their highest preseason ranking since 1994.

The Hawkeyes return all five starters from last season: Caitlin Clark, Monika Czinano, Gabbie Marshall, Kate Martin and McKenna Warnock. Veterans Sydney Affolter, AJ Ediger and Sharon Goodman will also factor into the rotation. The Hawkeyes are also excited to introduce Central Michigan transfer guard Molly Davis.

Last season, the Hawkeyes finished with a 24-8 record, en route to the Big Ten regular season championship and the Big Ten Tournament title. They finished with a No. 8 ranking in the final AP poll of the 2021-22 season.

Earlier this month, the 14 Big Ten coaches, along with the media, selected the Hawkeyes to win the Big Ten Championship. In addition, superstar guard Caitlin Clark was selected as the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year by both the coaches and the media. Fifth-year senior Monika Czinano also received preseason consensus first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Iowa kicks off its season with a home game against Southern University on Nov. 7th.
