Districts for Iowa’s high school football teams have been reassigned after the Mississippi Athletic Conference disbanded. The Iowa High School Athletic Association announced the new pairings for the 2014-2015 football season on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
The first step in the conference’s separation came in December of 2013 when Davenport Assumption announced that they would be moving to Class 3A. Assumption has been placed in Class 3A, District 5 to compete against Clear Creek Amana, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, and Washington.
Placed in Class 3A, District 4 are Central DeWitt and Maquoketa. These teams will play against Cedar Rapids Xavier, Dubuque Wahlert, Marion, Solon, and Western Dubuque.
Burlington and Muscatine will play in Class 4A, District 6 with Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cedar Rapids Washington, Iowa City High, and Ottumwa.
Class 4A, District 7 will include both Davenport Central and North, Pleasant Valley, Dubuque Hempstead, and Iowa City West.
Bettendorf, Clinton, Davenport West, and North Scott will join Dubuque Senior in Class 4A, District 8.
During weeks 1-4 in the 2014-2015 season Class 4A teams will be playing non-district games.
Competing in Class 2A, District 4 will be Camanche and Northeast Goose Lake which will play against Anamosa, Cascade, Monticello, Mount Vernon, and Tipton.
Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, West Burlington/Notre Dame and West Liberty have been placed in Class 2A, District 5 with Central Lee, Mid-Prairie, and Williamasburg.
Competing against Alburnett and West Branch in Class 1A, District 5 will be Bellevue, Durant, North Cedar, Wapello, and Wilton.
Columbus Junction has been moved to Class 1A, District 6 along with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Highland (Riverside), Iowa City Regina, Pella Christian, Sigourney-Keota, and West Marshall.
In Class A, District 5 Easton Valley will compete against East Buchanan, Edgewood-Colesburg, Lisbon, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Postville, and Starmont.
Instead of 8-man teams, Class A competitors will field 11-man teams.
