DAVENPORT, Iowa — Folks walking or driving down Davenport Wednesday should keep their eyes peeled for a giant spud in the road.
The Big Idaho Potato Truck is on its 10th cross-country journey to spread the good news about the heart-healthy Idaho Potato. The massive potato weighs 4 tons and is really hard to miss out on the road!
The truck started this series of trips back in 2012 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission. It quickly became a success, similar to Oscar Meyer's Weinermobile which also travels across the country.
Here are some fun facts about the truck and its larger-than-life tater:
- A real potato would take 7,000 years to grow this big.
- The 4-ton giant would make 20,217 servings of mashed potatoes.
- A total of 21,562 regular potatoes would weigh as much as this one.
- The potato would make 1 million average-sized fries.
Besides those fun facts, the potato also has a heartfelt mission to partner with charities across the nation.
