JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa — A small airplane had to make an emergency landing on a highway in Johnson County, Iowa this weekend, according to the sheriff's office.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 along southbound Highway 218. Officials said a Stearman model plane landed safely on the roadway and the pilot steered it toward a drainage ditch after running out of fuel.

No injuries were reported and the aircraft was not damaged, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said.

The road was closed for around a minute before the airplane received fuel from local law enforcement and took off again. JSCO said the Federal Aviation Administration was contacted about the incident.
