HAVANA, Ill. — The roof of a historic theater in Havana, Illinois, collapsed overnight on Monday, Aug. 5.
The vacant Lawford Theater sat next to the Havana City Hall. Officials with the Havana Police Department told Peoria news station WEEK that several neighboring businesses are closed, including a law office, bookstore and the city hall itself. The bookstore was damaged in the collapse.
Officials don't believe anyone was hurt in the collapse. However, according to the chief of the Havana Fire Department, the theater will need to be demolished after investigators identify what caused the collapse.
According to the theater's website, Lawford first opened all the way back in 1914.
