Remains found at Waterloo waste treatment plant belong to man missing since 2021, police say

While the medical examiner's office is still conducting more tests, police say no foul play is suspected.

WATERLOO, Iowa — Human remains found at a Waterloo waste treatment plant earlier this week belong to a man missing since 2021, investigators say.

Shortly after noon on Monday, March 4, officers responded to reports of human remains found inside the Waterloo Waste Treatment Plant, according to a Waterloo Police Department news release. The remains were taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's office in Ankeny, where they were identified as belonging to 52-year-old Darrin Lenton, who was reported missing back on July 10, 2021. 

While the medical examiner's office is still conducting more tests, no foul play is suspected, according to the release.
