CAROL STREAM, Ill. — Suburban Chicago police fatally shot a man Saturday morning, Feb. 3, while responding to a domestic violence incident, but the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear.
The Carol Stream Police Department said on its Facebook page that officers "encountered a tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving situation, which resulted in officers discharging their weapons at the alleged domestic violence suspect."
Authorities said the suspect was shot and critically injured. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. In an update, police identified the deceased as 30-year-old Isaac Goodlow III of the Chicago area.
"He didn't deserve that, he was a good kid," Bonnie Pigram, the victim's mother, told ABC7 Chicago. "He was a good young man."
No other details about the circumstances leading to the shooting have been provided. Police did not say whether the man was armed. The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. at the Village Brook Apartments in Carol Stream.
According to the department, no officers were injured and those involved have been placed on paid leave while the investigation continues. Officers were wearing body cameras, with the footage being reviewed.
The Public Integrity Team of the DuPage Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team Task Force and the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting.
