DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. — Illinois State Police have made an arrest in the death of DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy Christina Musil.

On Wednesday, April 3, officers announced that 44-year-old Nathan P. Sweeney of DeKalb had been arrested and charged with one count of reckless homicide and three counts of aggravated DUI causing a death.

According to the Illinois State Police, officers responded to reports of a crash on Illinois Route 23 south of Perry Road on Thursday, March 28 shortly after 10:30 p.m. Officers said Musil was sitting in her parked squad car on the right shoulder of the road when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Kenworth truck driven by Sweeney. Musil, a five-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, was hospitalized but ultimately died of her injuries. ISP alleges that Sweeney was under the influence of drugs when the crash took place.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Musil was a military police officer in the Army National Guard and also served in Afghanistan.
