Search for vulnerable 11-year-old ends after body pulled from Minnesota pond

The department has discontinued search efforts and is launching an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, according to its website.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) has discontinued an urgent search after a body matching the description of a missing boy with autism was found in a pond late Sunday night.

A search team made up of personnel from EPPD, the Eden Prairie Fire Department, K-9 units, drones and a State Patrol helicopter was deployed shortly before 6 p.m. after 11-year-old Mohamed Mohamed, described as autistic and non-verbal, wandered off. After just over three hours of searching, EPPD posted on its social media channels that a body matching the description of the missing child had been pulled from a pond near his family's home.

"It is with heavy hearts we share that a body matching the description of Mohamed Mohamed, the 11-year-old child who went missing earlier today, was recovered from a pond nearby Mohamed’s residence at approximately 9:30 pm Sunday, Oct 20," said the department in a post on X.

The department has discontinued search efforts and is launching an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
