JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa — A truck reported stolen nearly five decades ago was recovered from Coralville Lake in Johnson County, Iowa late last month.

A 1969 Datsun truck was pulled from the lake on Aug. 20, according to a Wednesday Facebook post from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. It was detected by local fishermen back in March using sonar images.

No remains were found inside the vehicle. Upon investigation, the sheriff's office said the truck had been reported missing in Johnson County back in 1977. Officials presume the vehicle has been in the water for several decades.

The truck's owner has been notified but due to the length of time, any criminal charges involved in the case are beyond the statute of limitations. All investigation into the matter is closed.

According to the sheriff's office, the truck was recovered thanks to the collaborative effort between the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Johnson County Metro Dive Team, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Tegeler Wrecker and Crane out of Cedar Rapids and Johnson County Emergency Management.
