Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon has announced that she will be running for Illinois Comptroller.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2013, Simon said that she was getting into the race, just months after saying she was not running for governor.
Simon had stops scheduled in Chicago, Springfield, and Carbondale on Wednesday.
In a statement by Sheila Simon, she said the comptroller's office has the resources to find waste and corruption in local and state government.
"We need a comptroller that brings accountability to Illinois - not just accounting," she said.
To gain the position, she would need to win the democratic primary before running against the current Illinois Comptroller, Judy Baar Topinka.
