SIBLEY, Iowa (AP) — Sibley leaders are studying the city’s options after owners of a processing plant didn’t meet a deadline to provide $50,000 to help reduce odors coming from the facility.
The Sioux City Journal reports that Iowa Drying and Processing had until Monday turn in the money. City administrator Glenn Anderson says the city’s attorney is reviewing the types of action that can be taken to get the company to subdue the strong smell that has brought numerous complaints and citations.
The funds from the processing plant would have been used to hire an engineer to study the plant and determine how it could decrease the odor.
The plant’s chief financial officer says the company met with city and economic development leaders before buying the plant and informed them of its products and processes.
