Iowa State Senator, Dr. Joe Seng has announced that he has a brain tumor.
Seng, who represents Davenport and the southern part of Scott County, made the announcement Thursday, September 4, 2014.
"Physicians have determined that I have a brain tumor," Seng said in a statement. “The tumor is located in my left parietal lobe – about at the top of my head.”
He noted that treatment usually includes combinations of surgery, radiation, and/or chemotherapy. His personal treatment plan has not yet been set.
Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal of Council Bluffs said when he spoke to Dr. Seng, he found the representative to be optimistic, and referred to his character as “tough as nails.”
“I’m betting on Joe Seng to win this battle and return to the Iowa Senate for the opening gavel in January,” Gronstal said.
“I am grateful for the prayers, support and encouragement that I have already received from my family, close friends and colleagues in the Legislature,” Seng said.
Despite the diagnosis, Seng said he plans to be in his Senate seat in the Statehouse on the first day of the 2015 session.
