DAVENPORT, Iowa — The 2024 General Election is just around the corner, taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The race for U.S. president between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris is arguably at the forefront of this year's election, but numerous national, statewide and local elections will also be taking place.
Here's some of the biggest questions voters in Iowa are asking as the election season draws near.

Register online or in person to vote in Iowa
In order to vote in Iowa, you must be a U.S. citizen, an Iowa resident and at least 18 years old by election day. Click here to visit the Secretary of State's website, where you can complete your registration.

Key dates ahead of the General Election
- Tuesday, Aug. 27: First day to file absentee ballot requests with county auditor
- Wednesday, Oct, 16: First day of absentee voting
- Monday, Oct. 21: Pre-registration Deadline; Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed and received by county auditor prior to 5:00 p.m. CT
- Monday, Nov. 4: Absentee ballot in-person deadline
- Tuesday, Nov. 5: Absentee ballots receipt deadline; Election day
What do you need to vote in Iowa?
- Iowa driver’s license (not expired more than 90 days)
- Iowa non-operator ID (not expired more than 90 days)
- U.S. passport (not expired)
- U.S. military ID or veteran ID (not expired)
