Gov. Kim Reynolds announces last round of child care stipends

Providers can apply for the funding through Jan. 12, 2024.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Child care providers in Iowa may be eligible for an additional stipend to help support their businesses.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced what she called the final round of COVID stipends for child care on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The stipends range in value from $10,000 to $50,000 and can be used for employee recruitment & retention, renovations and equipment upgrades. The application to receive a stipend will be open through Jan. 12, 2024.

According to Reynolds' office, more than $218 million have been given to providers throughout the pandemic, with an additional $35 million in Child Care Challenge grants helping create over 4,800 new slots for child care across the state of Iowa.

“Child care is the catalyst that drives economic growth,” Reynolds said in a press release. “At a time when most parents work outside the home, access to reliable, safe, and affordable child care allows parents to pursue their careers and contribute to the productivity and growth of our economy.”
