Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart looking ahead to November

Hart is one of Iowa's delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

IOWA, USA — With the Democratic National Convention nearing its end, the chair of the Iowa Democratic Party is looking ahead to November.

Speaking to News 8 on Thursday, Aug. 22, IDP Chair Rita Hart said the last few weeks have been energizing for Iowa's Democrats, who she said have spent the last two years reflecting on the 2022 election. During that cycle, Democrats lost every federal office and all but one statewide office.

"We spent that time and that energy building, putting down the groundwork and making the tough changes that had to be made, so we're a different party than we were a year and a half ago," Hart said.

Hart also said that Democrats have spent the last two years on a grassroots effort to get people registered and ready to vote, and she believes that momentum within the party is coming at just the right time.

"We've got more volunteers that are more excited about our candidates in Christina Bohannan in the first district and Lanon Baccam in the third district. We have every chance in the world to pick up one or both of those seats. So we are very much concentrating on that," Hart said.
