Illinois' 17th Congressional District Republican candidates participate in candidate forum before Primary

Joe McGraw, a retired judge from Rockford, and Scott Crawl, a Milan farmer, see eye to eye on most things including tighter border security and energy independence.

COLONA, Ill. — The Illinois Primary is on Tuesday, March 19. Before voters hit the polls, the two candidates competing to run against Eric Sorenson for Illinois 17th Congressional District made their final pitch to voters.

Joe McGraw, a retired Judge from Rockford and Scott Crowl, a Milan Farmer, see eye to eye on most things including tighter southern border policies and energy independence. McGraw, who retired from the bench in July, says he's fighting to bring the values of the 17th District to Washington.

"The top issue on everyone's mind in the district is the crime and the drugs and all the illegals coming here from across the open border," McGraw said. "It's another case of America last."

His challenger Scott Crowl agrees border security is a top priority. He also thinks people's pocketbooks are taking too hard of a hit.

"Here's the thing that I'm going to work on the hardest, Inflation," Crowl said. "And inflation is caused by Congress spending too much money."

Eric Sorenson won the 17th District in 2022 by 4%.
