IOWA, USA — Texas Pastor Ryan Binkley, an outsider candidate who has not previously held elected office, finished in fifth place in the Iowa Caucus.
Binkley received 754 votes with 95% of precincts reporting, about 0.7% of more than 107,000 ballots cast, according to the Associated Press. He finished in fifth place behind rivals Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, pulling ahead of Asa Hutchinson.
According to Binkley's campaign website, he is president and CEO of Generational Group based out of Richardson, Texas, and also founded Create Church where he serves as lead pastor. Binkley centered his campaign around his faith, and his platform prioritized border security and balancing the federal budget.
Binkley's campaign struggled to find footing for his longshot candidacy in Iowa. The pastor received 0% support in Des Moines Register/Mediacom polls conducted in December, October and August.
Binkley will now look ahead to the New Hampshire Primary on Jan. 23 where Trump possesses a strong lead.
