Democratic Party of Illinois provides voters with protection hotline

The party received 1,624 calls so far this election year, with Hernandez saying she expects numbers to climb even more.

ILLINOIS, USA — With election night less than a week away, the Democratic Party of Illinois is making sure voters have resources during this important time.

This would come in the form of a voter protection hotline where people can call if they have questions about voting.

Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez says they started the hotline a couple of years ago. She said they have implemented the resource for this year's cycle of elections.

"It's been really good to hear that people are utilizing these resources," Hernandez said. "We had like over 400 calls in one week and it's been like over 1600 calls for this is a cycle of elections that we have encountered so far."

The party received 1,624 calls so far this election year, with Hernandez saying she expects numbers to climb even more.

Hernandez said the most common reason for voters to call is to ask questions regarding how they can make sure their vote counts.

"I would say the majority of people who are really calling in these days are people who are just not exactly sure how to fill out like the voter by mail or they're asking, did they receive it? Has it been received? It's just very basic information," Hernandez said.

She said when a complaint or issue is brought up regarding one's vote, they work to find a solution as soon as possible.

"The team will get together, devise a plan, begin to contact whoever is necessary to involve, like the county clerk's office," Hernandez said. "To date, we've had nothing like that."
