CYPRESS, Texas — A Cypress family is sharing their story after they say they were terrorized by a man who cased their home for half an hour before hurling a rock through their window. The incident was caught on camera.
"Kids were upstairs, all of a sudden I hear a shattering sound," said the father.
The victim chose not to show his face but recounted the story of what played out Sunday night just as they put their kids to bed.
"I don't know if it's an intruder, someone trying to break into the house," he said. "I see the shattered glass on the floor. I tell my wife to call the police."
The rock ended up in his study. The damage is still not cleaned up. What happened and why is still keeping them up at night.
"There's fear, along with trauma comes fear," he said. "The inability to sleep. Constantly, any noise you hear, you think is this again, is it someone again. It's very unsettling."
Cameras from neighbors show the suspect casing their house for nearly 30 minutes, seen walking with a rock in hand. A closer look revealed the attempt caught on camera was the third and final try.
Earlier that night, the suspect had tried at least twice before to chunk rocks through their windows. A bigger boulder took a chunk of the siding near his front door.
"It's very intentional," he said. "The actions were very intentional."
Neighbors were able to get a good look and video of the suspect's vehicle driving off. A license plate was captured as well. The family is now hoping that the video of the perp striking their window is enough for deputies to make an arrest.
"I know for everyone, the family, it's still very traumatic," he said. "It's the last thing we would expect to happen."
The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office said it is investigating the incident. If you have any video or information about what happened you are encouraged to contact law enforcement.
