SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A jarring scene played out earlier this week over the skies in New York, as a Delta flight and another plane crossed paths near one another in the air.
The incident was caught on police dashcam video, which you can watch in the video player above this story.
It happened on Monday near Syracuse's Hancock Airport. According to reports, it involved a Delta connection flight that was had just taken off from the airport and an American Eagle flight that was about to land.
The North Syracuse Police Department video shows them appearing to get very close to one another. The Website Flightradar24 reported they were roughly 700-1,000 feet apart.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, though it has yet to classify it as a "close call."
The incident appears to have stemmed from confusion with one plane nearing landing at the airport on the same runway the other plane was about to take off from.
"An air traffic controller instructed PSA Airlines 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway," an FAA statement said.
A statement from Atlanta-based Delta to national outlets said the airline "will work with aviation authorities as we always do in our shared commitment to safety above all else."
The two smaller regional flights were reportedly carrying 159 people combined.
