WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — Lynne Kannuan told the Iowa Lottery she usually waits several weeks before seeing if her lottery ticket is a winning one, but that all changed one month ago.

Kannuan's friend in Arkansas messaged her, telling her someone in Webster City won the $1 million prize in the Powerball drawing the previous night. Upon checking her ticket, which she had in her purse, she found that she won a drawing from Monday, Aug. 5.

She claimed her prize on Wednesday in Clive. Kannuan said she checked the numbers twice just to be sure, before going straight to her boss's office and telling them she had just won $1 million.

Kannuan and her husband immigrated to the United States as children, and after winning the prize reflected on how far they've both come in their lives. The family plans to continue their days as normal, with Kannuan describing the winning amount as "not too much, not too little, just right."

Kannuan bought her ticket at the Fareway on 942 Second St in Webster city while stopping for groceries on her way home from work. That Fareway received $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The winning numbers on the Aug. 5 drawing were 29-42-44-51-54 and Powerball 12.
