2 QC hospitals earn national award for heart attack treatment

UnityPoint Health - Trinity in Rock Island and Bettendorf are two of just 259 hospitals nationwide that received the recognition.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — UnityPoint Health is celebrating its commitment to heart health this year after two of its Quad Cities hospitals were awarded the American College of Cardiology's NCDR Chest Pain - MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award.

UnityPoint Health - Trinity in Rock Island and Bettendorf are two of just 259 hospitals nationwide that received the recognition.

“Heart disease continues to top the Quad Cities’ list of health care concerns, causing the deaths of nearly 25% of adults in our community – we believe that’s too many,” Kathy Pulley, director of cardiology services at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Heart Center, said. “Receiving this recognition reflects the dedication, commitment and expertise of our highly skilled team, who ensure those suffering a heart attack receive the highest level of care right here at home.”

This national award recognizes a high level of care for heart attack patients. Hospitals that receive it have set aggressive goals to give patients the best care outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association recommendations. For UnityPoint Health to qualify, they had to maintain achievements in the Chest Pain - MI Registry for two consecutive years and perform at the highest level to fulfill specific measures outlined by national heart health associations.

“We are thrilled to offer this level of quality heart care to the communities we serve,” said Jeff Carstens, cardiovascular service line medical director at UnityPoint Health. “Our vision has always been to provide the best outcome to every patient, every time and we are thankful for these awards that show we are reaching our goals.”
