ANDALUSIA, Ill. — WNBA's Kate Martin went from the hardwood to the hallways on Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Aces player was the honorary principal at Andalusia Elementary School, according to a Facebook post from the district. She also spoke with students during her visit.
Martin played for the Iowa Hawkeyes during her college career, helping the team make it to back-to-back NCAA championship games. She was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces in April and went on to make the team's roster.
Martin's parents live in the Quad Cities after moving back to the area from Edwardsville. Her mom, Jill, works at Andalusia Elementary.
"When I got interviewed here, they didn't know that Kate was my daughter," Jill told News 8 back in April. "And they wanted a fun fact. So I said, 'Oh, Kate Martin's my daughter.' And the reaction they gave me surprised me because I didn't realize how excited people would be that she was my daughter."
