GALESBURG, Ill. — There is a lucky lottery winner in Galesburg! The Illinois Lottery announced Thursday, Oct. 26, that a winning ticket in their $250,000 Crossword game has been purchased in Galesburg.
The ticket was sold at the Hy-Vee grocery store located at 2030 E. Main St. The release did not specify what date the ticket was purchased.
The lucky player spent $10 and won a quarter of a million dollars. The odds of winning the big prize in this game are 1 in 719,227.50. There were 16 total top-winning tickets sold in the statewide promotion.
The Galesburg ticket is one of three around the state that recently won, along with one purchased at a MotoMart in Cahokia and at a Mobil gas station in Cortland.
Hy-Vee will receive a bonus for its part in the sale. The store gets one percent of the prize amount, in this case, $2,500.
Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw to claim their prize. The Illinois Lottery encourages all winners to write their names on the back of the tickets and keep them in a safe place until they're ready to claim their prize.
Winners can also visit the Illinois Lottery website for more information on how to go about claiming their prizes.
The Illinois Lottery says that so far in 2023, more than 54 million winning scratch-off lottery tickets have been sold, for over $1 billion in total prizes.
