An eastern Iowa candy shop has been named one of USA Today's 10 best candy stores in the United States.
Wilton Candy Kitchen in Wilton was nominated for the list in 2023 and was once again one of 20 independent stores nominated by experts for this year's reader's choice list. After two weeks of voting and selections made by a panel of experts, the beloved Iowa candy shop has come in at 9th Place, according to USA Today.
The candy shop has been around since 1860, first operating as a confectionary before upgrading to a restaurant, soda fountain and ice cream parlor in the late 19th century. It is presumed to be one of the oldest candy stores in the country.
Today, visitors can still find many sweet treats including ice cream, unique sodas, sandwiches and retro candies, all while enjoying some old-fashioned charm.
