DAVENPORT, Iowa — If you noticed a strange smell wafting around the Quad Cities on Wednesday, you weren't alone. One post on the r/QuadCities subreddit had multiple community members complaining of the scent throughout the day.
News 8 reached out to the National Weather Service Quad Cities for an explanation. Officials said that the smell came from farmers spraying fertilizers onto their fields after harvests. With the winds heading north to northwest, the scent was carried along with them, right into the Quad Cities.
Officials said the scent could be detected as far south as Missouri.
