WALCOTT, Iowa — Walcott's old water tower crashed to the ground during a controlled removal earlier this week.
The old tower, built in 1967, was dismantled by method of tipping.
The 75,000-gallon tower had been left unused for several years after a larger 500,000-gallon tower, which provides water for the entire community, was built near the I-80 Truck Stop in 1997.
The City said that the decision to remove the dormant tower was made after deciding it was no longer worth the cost of maintaining its exterior.
