Quad Cities tradition: Vibrant Arena to light 40-foot-tall Christmas tree

A lighting ceremony will be held on Nov. 18 with plenty of holiday fun.

MOLINE, Ill. — Vibrant Arena is gearing up for a beloved Quad Cities holiday tradition.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, crews with Vibrant Arena brought their new 40-foot-tall Christmas tree across the I-74 bridge. The tree, a 35-year-old Blue Spruce donated by Scott and Susan Young of Davenport, will have approximately 30,000 bulbs on it when officials light the tree at the annual Lighting on the Commons ceremony.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the John Deere Commons in Moline. The free annual event will have horse-drawn wagon rides, live music, a craft area for children and Santa Claus. A firework display will also accompany the lighting of the tree.

New 8's Shelby Kluver and James Zahara will be there to help flip the switch and ring in the holiday season.
