PHOTOS: USPS truck collides with building in Silvis

It took place on Tuesday evening.

SILVIS, Ill. — A United States Postal Service truck collided with a building in Silvis on Tuesday.

Silvis Police Chief Mark VanKlaveren confirmed the incident and said that the driver sustained minor injuries. No arrests were made, and as of Tuesday evening, the incident was still under investigation. No details as to what led up to the crash have been released.

We reached back out to police on Wednesday for additional information but have yet to hear back.

News 8 received numerous photos from a viewer, Drew H., who was at the scene. He told News 8 it happened at the Warren Tower apartment building, located at 325 2nd St. News 8 verified this with the photos' geolocation. He added that it happened around 4:30 p.m., which was shortly before the photos were submitted.

We reached to USPS's Illinois media officer who relayed contact information for the Postal Inspection Service. That contact sent the following:

Good evening. This is the first I have heard of this incident as we were both notified of it.

We typically would not be involved in the handling of this type of postal vehicle accident.  That would be handled by USPS management. Comments regarding handling of such accidents, would need to be addressed by USPS not the USPIS.

Internal issues such as misconduct by an employee, if misconduct is determined to have occurred, would be handled by USPS office of Inspector General. That is the other federal law enforcement branch of the Postal Service. Any comments would need to be addresses by them, or USPS regarding the handling of such vehicle accidents.
