DAVENPORT, Iowa — The State of Iowa Treasurer's Office is looking to return millions of dollars in unclaimed property to Iowa residents through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt.
The Treasurer's Office is using the initiative to return unclaimed property to its rightful owners. To date, the office has returned $372,758,881 to Iowa residents.
According to the Treasurer's website, unclaimed property is turned over to its office by financial institutions and businesses for safekeeping after losing contact with the property owners. The unclaimed properties include inactive checking and savings accounts, uncashed checks, lost stocks and bonds, utility security refunds, insurance benefits or even valuables from abandoned safe deposit boxes.
All it takes is a quick name search to determine if you have unclaimed property waiting for you.
