Davenport police identify victims in fatal fire, deaths investigated as homicides

The fire occurred shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the 5200 block of North Division Street. Two people were found dead at the scene.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update: on Thursday, Jan. 18, Davenport police identified the victims as 44-year-old Brian L. Goodwin and 44-year-old Amy M. Smith. Their deaths are being investigated as homicides. Anyone with information relating to this case is asked to contact the Davenport Police at 563-326-6125 or submit an anonymous tip at www.qccrimestoppers.com.

Two people were killed during a residential fire Tuesday morning. According to Davenport Police, the origin of the fire and the cause of death has been deemed "suspicious." 

Around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, first responders were dispatched to the 5200 block of North Division Street for a fire. Smoke was rising from the apartment when crews arrived, but Davenport firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames. After searching the apartment, two individuals were found deceased.

According to police call records, officers responded to the address just hours earlier at 11:46 p.m. Monday to a report of a violent domestic disturbance.

The incident is under investigation by the Davenport Police Department, and no other information is available at this time.
