DAVENPORT, Iowa — Davenport's "Truck Eating Bridge" has struck again.
Located over Brady Street, right before it intersects with Fifth Street downtown, the bridge has a notorious history of taking the tops off of semi-trailers. A semi-driver heading along Brady on Tuesday morning met a similar fate. Social posts show it happened around 10 a.m.
A News 8 photographer was at the scene and said a crane was used to remove the truck. As of 12:20 p.m., the scene is clear. Brady Street remained open as crews cleaned the area.
A sign at the bridge clearly marks the clearance as being 11 feet and 8 inches. It has yellow lights attached as well.
Just a block down Fifth Street is another 11' 8" bridge crossing over Harrison Street. It also has a history of "truck eating" tendencies, and has become an official location on Google Maps.
