Man killed by train in Kewanee

KEWANEE, Ill. — Content Warning: This story contains information that may be sensitive to some readers. 

Kewanee police said a man has died after being struck by a train Sunday evening. 

According to a press release, the Kewanee Police Department responded to the incident around 8 p.m. on Sept. 8. Police said an individual lying on the tracks had been struck by an Amtrak train. It happened just north of the 600 block of E. 6th Street. 

Police said they found personal belongings and a form of identification belonging to the person, who has been identified as a 40-year-old man. His name is being withheld by officials pending a positive confirmation of his identity. Police did not provide any additional information on the nature of his death. 

The Henry County Sheriff's Office, the Henry County Coroner's Office and the Amtrack Police Department assisted KPD in the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Paulsen or Detective Kazubowski at the department by calling (309) 853-1911.
