ANNAWAN, Ill. — Emergency crews responded to Annawan after a train hit a semi-trailer on Friday morning.
Annawan police, along with the Henry County Sheriff's Department, were on the scene near U.S. Highway 6 and Route 78 just before 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 10.
Annawan police confirmed to News 8 crews on the scene that no one was injured in the accident. The preliminary investigation shows the truck was heading southbound on Route 78 when it was struck.
Annawan Police Chief Doug Elliot said in a press release that the crossing is controlled with railroad crossing lights, which appeared to have been functioning properly at the time of the incident.
News 8 viewer Mark VanHyfte sent photos to the newsroom, showing that a train on the Iowa Interstate Railroad struck a semi with Menards markings.
The photos show debris strewn across the intersection, but the cab of the semi appears intact.
A piece of the trailer appears stuck to the front of the locomotive.
A tow truck crane has been brought in to remove the remnants of the trailer, according to Robin Stage, a News 8 viewer on the scene.
Route 78 was blocked off for a while due to cleanup but has since reopened to traffic. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
