DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Project of the Quad Cities wants your help to "sweeten the fight against HIV/AIDS." For the past 30 years, the nonprofit has hosted a Red Ribbon Gala in support of services for people living with HIV.
The fundraiser helps allow The Project to continue vital services at no cost. Those needs are changing though, The Project says, as survivors from the 1980s and 90s are aging.
This year, it's hosting the Red Ribbon Candyland Ball on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport. The ball will feature drag and burlesque performances, including a performance by Lady Camden of RuPaul's Drag Race. Local restaurants and bakeries are also competing in the first ever Red Ribbon Dessert Contest. Attendees will vote for their favorite treat using dollars and the winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
The gala starts at 6 p.m. with an official afterparty at 10 p.m. at the Stardust Davenport. Tickets can be bought online here.
